Now Serving Men
The Manor has been serving women with developmental disabilities since 1981. Of the 28 women we serve, 13 have lived at the Manor since its
inception. Immacolata Manor is the only habilitation facility in the Kansas City Metro area who does not serve both men and women - until now.
In 2008 the Board of Directors changed the Immacolata Manor mission statement from "serving women" to "serving persons" with the intent of
some day opening an Individualized Supported Living (ISL) Home to serve just a few of the more than 400 men with a developmental disability
in the state of Missouri on a waiting list. In June of this year IM was contacted by the Kansas City Regional Office of the Division of
Developmental Disabilities with just this opportunity. Hence, we are pleased to announce the opening of our second ISL on July 22, 2009,
to serve two young men with developmental disabilities.
As you can imagine, setting up a new apartment for a college student takes a lot of effort, resources, and funding. Now imagine setting up a
similar apartment for two college age men who are challenged physically, mentally, and medically with the goal of creating as independent an
environment as individual capabilities would merit. This was our challenge.
With the opening of a new Men's ISL also come new staff assignments. Some are familiar names to the Manor, while others are brand new.
Congratulations to the following Men's ISL Staff - Karla Nimmo, Lead Staff; Stephanie Collins; Lora Black; and new hires, Denice Bartley
and Nick Hockman. Victoria Baker has been assigned as Med Supervisor.

Leveraging the World Wide Web
Social media are here to stay and will only grow more powerful. We all have to understand it and learn to leverage it for the benefit of our
organizations and our causes. So, take an aspirin to ward off your headache, and jump into your computer screen. For beginners and experienced
surfers alike, here are a couple of places to start:
GoodSearch & GoodShop for Immacolata Manor. What if IM earned a donation every time you searched the Internet? Or how
about if a percentage of every purchase you made online went to support our cause? Well, now it can!
GoodSearch.com is a new Yahoo-powered search engine that donates half its advertising revenue, about a penny per search,
to the charities its users designate. Use it just as you would any search engine, get quality search results from Yahoo, and watch the
donations add up! GoodShop.com is a new online shopping mall which donates up to 37 percent of each purchase to your favorite cause!
Hundreds of great stores including Amazon, Target, Gap, Best Buy, ebay, Macy's and Barnes & Noble have teamed up with GoodShop and
every time you place an order, you'll be supporting the Manor. Just go to
www.goodsearch.com
and be sure to enter Immacolata Manor as the charity you want to support. And, be sure to spread the word!
Become a fan of Immacolata Manor! Are you on Facebook? Join us! Immacolata Manor has created a presence on Facebook to share information

Facebook to check it out and meet other people who are joining Janey.s Ride, raising money, or just interested in IM and
the services we provide. We'll be posting updates, photos, events and discussions there. Come on over and write on our wall!
If the social networking revolution has so far passed you by, you can still join Facebook for free at www.facebook.com.
Turn your next social event into a fundraiser. Even with a successful fundraising event with lots of participants, we're willing to bet that we've
got even more supporters out there living their lives with gusto.having birthdays, running marathons, hosting parties, and more. Did you know,
with little effort on your part, you can turn these activities into fundraising events for Immacolata Manor? Firstgiving is the leading social
platform for online fundraising, offering everyday people tools and resources to raise money for causes that matter to them, bringing individual
fundraising stories to life. Raising money online with Firstgiving is safe and easy. Here's how:

02.06.09 - Go Red for Women
Too few people realize that heart disease is
the #1 killer of women - and of men - but
the good news is that heart disease can
largely be prevented. Go Red For Women Day,
organized by the American Heart Association,
was Friday, February 6, 2009. To spread the
message "The Heart of Your Business Matters"
to further raise awareness of heart disease
and empowering women in workplaces to reduce
their risk factors for heart disease, the
Clay County Public Health Center asked all
county businesses and organizations to show
their support for Women's Heart Health
Awareness by joining them in wearing red to
work on that day. As a service provider to
27 women with developmental disabilities,
employer of 53 women, and recruiter of a
female volunteer base of 100+, we felt it
critically necessary to participate in this
beneficial event. Not only as an employee
wellness program to emphasize our care and
concern for those who work for us, but also
as a service agency through deliberate focus
and enhancement of our health and wellness
programs and services provided to our
residents and My Day participants, and
finally as a community partner who relies on
valued community stakeholders to further our
cause and image as a comprehensive service
provider to persons with a developmental
disability. As witnessed by the photo,
consumers, staff, and volunteers alike
turned out to Go Red for Women at Immacolata
Manor.
