To give back to the community, just as their parents had taught them, two Liberty boys, Jeff Heishman and Kevin Broderick, each started a benefit motorcycle ride. Jeff started the "Janey Heishman Ride" in memory of his mother. Kevin started "The Over the Next Hill Ride for Immacolata Manor" in memory of his father, Robert Broderick. As there were sometimes conflicts in ride dates, Kevin and Jeff decided in 2003 to combine the two rides and the "Janey's Over The Next Hill Ride for Immacolata Manor" was born. During the past twelve years, more than 5,000 riders have participated in Janey's Ride. Building ridership and support from corporate sponsors has made this affair the "best motorcycle event in the Northland."
Though Janey's Ride means a day of camaraderie with fellow bikers and a chance to enjoy the freedom of the road, for those who work, volunteer and live at Immacolata Manor this ride means so much more. Support of Janey's Ride is needed to guarantee that the programs at Immacolata Manor continue to provide personalized support to people with developmental disabilities. The supports and services provided by Immacolata Manor cost over $125 per day per resident. Proceeds received from Janey's Ride will help to make certain that each person served by Immacolata Manor will continue to receive the individualized, special support needed to develop to their fullest potential. To fulfill this objective, our goal is to raise $48,500.00 through corporate sponsorships, increased rider participation, in-kind donations, and rider generated pledges.

2010 Ride Review

We did it! Janey's Ride 2010 was a huge success thanks to the support of our Sponsors, Volunteers, and Riders. Together we were able to accomplish a lot more with a lot less, producing the following results:

  • 122 on-line pre-registrations with 51 passengers (124 in 2009)
  • 228 bikes, 321 riders (41% passengers)...(compared to 327 bikes/458 riders in 2009) and you were hungry, leaving only 50 of 650 hotdogs uneaten in Plattsburg.
  • A change in the breakfast menu netted over $400, versus the $246 from last year, thanks to the Gladstone IOOF.
  • Pledges Received: $8,000 Eds Posse, $800'ish Jeff Heishman, $495 (Webb, Dunfee, Doss) brought in the day of the ride.
  • All of this resulted in the following numbers:

TOTAL Income 2010 and 2009 Compared

    2010 - $30,053.11 Net ------- 2009 - $33,057 Net

    2010 - $33,038.77 Gross ---- 2009 - $38,648 Gross

We had amazing sponsors this year that really helped us offset our costs especially Stables Grill & Farmland Foods (proving ALL materials for Plattsburg lunch) and Desperation Church (picking up the port-a-potty tab) - two of our largest expenses. Click here to view a full list of Janey's Ride 2010 Sponsors.

With Missouri State funding freezes and a 2% cut on all funding, we knew we had to hold on to every penny possible this year. As a result, expenses were down by $2,604 compared to last year ($5,590). This would not be possible without all of the in-kind donations received from ride sponsors and supporters.

Also at the ride were an awesome group of volunteers. Sixty-four (64) Volunteer Forms were completed, and that doesn't include the Desperation Church congregation (or those at Smithville, Plattsburg, or Kearney). There is a small but mighty group who dedicate an infinite amount of time and effort to the yearly planning and success of the ride, they are: Carol Barker, Bill Dunfee, Dennis Barker, Jeff Heishman, Jeff Knights, Victoria Dunfee, Laurie Knights, Ryan Hicks, Duncan Barnett, and Donna Hicks.

Thank you, thank you, thank you all for your generous support of Janey's Ride 2010. Help from the community is not something we take lightly and is very much appreciated by everyone connected with Immacolata Manor. Once again you have proven Janey's Ride to be The Best Ride in the Northland...we just couldn't do it without YOU! We hope you will mark your calendars now to join us again on June 26, 2011! SPREAD THE WORD!
